Special Features:

The Hearach is the first single malt from both the Isle of Harris Distillery and the Isle of Harris. The recipe marries spirit matured in ex-bourbon casks with spirit from Oloroso and Fino sherry butts. This particular 0.7-litre version is bottled at 46% and comes without a presentation box. The whisky is non-chill-filtered and contains no artificial colouring.

The profile combines gentle peat smoke and toasted malt with apple compote and wildflowers from the machair. Mixed spices, candied ginger, vanilla and honeycomb lead into a long finish with cream and fresh leather.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Isle of Harris Distillery stands by the harbour in Tarbert and was founded by Anderson Bakewell in 2015. From the outset, it was conceived not merely as a commercial venture but also as a way of strengthening the island community’s long-term future by creating employment across generations.

For its whisky, the team uses longer fermentations and a largely manual distillation process in custom-made copper stills. The distillers determine the cut points by smell and sight and adjust the steam valves by hand. The Hearach is distilled, matured, married and bottled on Harris; its casks rest near the Atlantic coast at Ardhasaig.
