The Pogues Irish Whiskey is the original blend in the black bottle, developed together with the band The Pogues. It consists of equal parts ten-year-old single malt matured in sherry casks and grain whiskey aged five to seven years in bourbon casks. The bourbon casks used for the grain whiskey are being used for whiskey maturation for the first time. The two components, matured in different cask types, are married to create the blend.

The high malt content, the two maturation paths and the collaboration with the band shape this bottling. Its character brings together malty and nutty impressions with honey, fruit and spice. The whiskey is bottled at 40%, and the bottle contains 0.7 litres.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, malt and barley mingle with honey, fruit and oak. Herbal and floral notes complement these impressions. Citrus, pepper, walnuts, toasted almonds and dark chocolate add further nuances.
• Palate: The whiskey feels smooth on the palate, with toasted notes, honey, apple and hazelnuts. Citrus fruit, nutmeg and pepper complement dark fruit notes and a hint of sweetness.
• Finish: The finish is rounded and long-lasting, with lingering malt.

Distillery/Bottler:

West Cork Distillers was founded in 2003 by childhood friends John O'Connell, Ger McCarthy and Denis McCarthy. Their first spirits were produced in a room behind Denis McCarthy's house in Union Hall, using two small stills from a Swiss schnapps distillery. The company moved to Skibbereen in 2014. As the business grew, the team built some of the distillery equipment it needed themselves.

In 2020, West Cork Distillers opened its Marsh Road site in Skibbereen. Distillation, storage and bottling are brought together there, with both pot stills and column stills among the equipment. West Cork Distillers produced and composed the blend for The Pogues, while the band contributed to its development and flavour direction. Irish ingredients are used for this bottling, including locally grown grain and spring water from the River Ilen. Production takes place in small batches using handcrafted copper stills.
