Special features: The Thomsons pursue an innovative path in New Zealand whisky production with their Manuka Smoke Single Malt. Founded in 2014 in Riverhead, the small craft distillery combines local ingredients with traditional craftsmanship – including two copper pot stills and aging in bourbon and wine casks. The whisky gets its pronounced smoky aroma from smoking the malt over native Manuka wood, a New Zealand myrtle species known for its characteristic notes of smoke, cinnamon, and ethereal Manuka oils.

They place special emphasis on using local malt from the South Island as well as the careful combination of aging techniques and flavors, which has already been awarded multiple times.
