Tiki Lovers Dark Rum brings together different distillation methods and stages of maturation to create a robust cocktail rum. Unaged pot-still rum from Jamaica's Hampden Estate is blended with rum aged for two to three years at the Foursquare Distillery in Barbados. Young rums from Trinidad and Guyana and Trinidad rum aged for three to five years complete the blend. This combination preserves the character of young distillates while adding the influence of tropical cask maturation.

Alongside chocolate and caramel, the blend offers vanilla, dark fruit, molasses and spices. At 57%, it belongs to the high-strength overproof rum category. Its robust character suits Mai Tai, Rum Punch and Zombie cocktails, which combine rum with citrus fruit, juices or other cocktail ingredients. This bottling contains colouring and is offered without chill filtration in a 0.7-litre bottle.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, cane sugar notes mingle with vanilla and milk chocolate.
• Palate: On the palate, the more bitter notes of dark chocolate meet caramel and crème brûlée.
• Finish: The rum has a short finish that leaves a light pepper note.

Distillery/Bottler:

Tiki Lovers was created by Stephan Berg and Alexander Hauck, who also developed the cocktail brand The Bitter Truth. Their interest in rum, tropical drinks and Polynesian pop culture led to the idea of their own rum range. Experiences in Tiki bars provided the impetus: they felt that the rums used did not bring enough aromatic character to the cocktails. Tiki Lovers therefore focuses on blends designed specifically for mixing tropical drinks. Dark Rum was introduced in 2011 and combines distillates from several Caribbean and South American regions for this purpose.
