Special Features:

The Cask Strength Edition brings together two classic cask influences: the whisky matures in first-fill ex-bourbon casks and former Oloroso sherry casks. Whiskies fully matured in these cask types are then married together, rather than simply given a subsequent sherry finish. Introduced in 2015, the edition was the first cask-strength bottling in Tomatin’s core range.

At a natural cask strength of 57.5%, this Highland Single Malt combines pronounced sweetness and spice. It is bottled without chill filtration or added colouring. The bottle contains 0.7 litres and comes in gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Golden syrup and ginger biscuits lead on the nose.
• Palate: Malt loaf and marzipan come together on the palate.
• Finish: The finish lingers, ending on dry, spicy notes.

Distillery/Bottler:

Tomatin lies in the Scottish Highlands near Inverness. Local man John MacDougall planned the distillery after the future route of the Highland Railway through Tomatin was announced in 1892. The distillery was registered on 8 June 1897. Following its closure in 1906, it resumed production under new ownership in 1909.

Its present focus on single malt grew out of a very different past: in 1974, Tomatin had 23 stills and an annual production capacity of 12.5 million litres of alcohol. Unused stills were removed in 2002, leaving twelve. This accompanied the shift from large-scale production for blended Scotch towards developing its own single malts. Tomatin’s classic house style is unpeated, soft and fruity.
