This limited 2012 edition combines initial maturation in American oak ex-bourbon casks with a finishing period in Oloroso sherry butts from Andalusia. Master Distiller Robert Fleming selected the single malt; the whiskies matured in the bourbon casks were first married and then finished in the Spanish sherry casks. The finish is therefore a second cask phase following the marrying, rather than exclusive maturation in Oloroso casks.

The Oloroso butts contribute a richer fruit character and additional complexity. The overall profile combines dried fruit and crème caramel with golden syrup and toffee. Roasted nuts and candied pecans add nutty accents, while cocoa, coffee, tobacco and wood spices shape the whisky’s darker side.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The sweet nose combines dried fruit, crème caramel and roasted nuts. Cocoa powder and baking spices add further accents.
• Palate: The whisky is buttery and layered on the palate: golden syrup meets crunchy toffee and chocolate-covered raisins, accompanied by fruit loaf, roasted coffee beans and tobacco.
• Finish: Maple oat biscuits, candied pecans and caffè latte come to the fore at the beginning of the finish. Tiramisu, chocolate ganache and warming wood spices follow.

Distillery/Bottler:

Tomintoul Distillery produced this Speyside single malt, distilled in 2012. Master Distiller Robert Fleming selected the whiskies used. After maturation in ex-bourbon casks, they were married and finished in Oloroso sherry butts. It is an official bottling.

Founded in 1965, the distillery is located on the Glenlivet Estate near the village of Tomintoul in Cairngorms National Park. It uses traditional distillation methods; the soft water from the Ballantruan spring and its tall stills are among its defining production features. Robert Fleming comes from a fourth-generation Speyside distilling family and has overseen Tomintoul for more than thirty years.
