Special Features:

A three-year secondary maturation in first-fill rum barrels from Uitvlugt Distillery, a Guyanese Demerara distillery that closed in 2000, defines this release from Murray McDavid’s Benchmark series. The Tormore, distilled in 2015, had previously matured for seven years in standard hogsheads. Casks 2202211 and 2202213 were used for the finish.

Murray McDavid bottled the ten-year-old single malt in autumn 2025 at 54.1%. Limited to 499 bottles of 0.7 litres each, it is non-chill-filtered and retains its natural colour.

Tormore’s fruity foundation meets the estery tropical-fruit and spice notes of the rum-cask finish. Candied pineapple, sweet liquorice and honeyed malt give the whisky richness, while grassy freshness, ginger and anise enliven its oily body. Vanilla, delicate caramel sweetness and sweet oak complete the profile.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose combines tropical fruit, candied citrus and sweet liquorice with grassy notes and vanilla sugar. A hint of sugar cane and spicy rum notes complement the impression.
• Palate: On the palate, candied pineapple and honeyed malt meet crème brûlée, gentle spice and sweet oak. The distinctly oily texture gives the flavours richness.
• Finish: The long, creamy finish carries estery notes and anise. Brown sugar and banana in rum sauce are accompanied by a hint of ginger.

Distillery/Bottler:

Tormore Distillery was built in 1960 and is one of the first distilleries encountered when travelling north into Speyside. Its distinctive architecture has been protected as a listed building since 1986. The distillery has belonged to Elixir Distillers since 2022, which is once again bringing Tormore’s fruity, elegant single malt style to the fore.

Murray McDavid was founded in 1994 by Mark Reynier, Simon Coughlin and Gordon Wright and is now owned by Aceo Ltd. Based at Coleburn Distillery in Speyside, the independent bottler specialises in further maturing selected whiskies in a range of cask types. For this Tormore, three years of secondary maturation in Uitvlugt rum barrels give the Speyside malt a distinctly tropical and spicy accent.
