Special Features:
This 14-year-old Irish single malt derives its distinctive character from the combination of triple distillation and finishing in four types of cask. After maturing in ex-bourbon casks, the whiskey is finished in bourbon, Oloroso sherry, port and Madeira casks. It is bottled at 41.3%.
Ripe apples, sweet citrus fruit and tropical notes form the fruity core. Vanilla and oak provide structure, while sweetness and subtle spice balance the profile.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: The nose is lively and fruit-forward: ripe apples, sweet citrus fruit and tropical fruit notes mingle with vanilla and oak.
- Palate: The whiskey is rich and sweet on the palate, with layers of fruit, oak and subtle spice shaping the flavour.
- Finish: The sweetness lingers through the long finish.
Distillery/Bottler:
The single malt used for this bottling comes from Midleton Distillery. Through William Grant & Sons Irish Brands Limited, Tullamore D.E.W. belongs to the William Grant & Sons group.
The brand’s history dates back to the distillery founded in Tullamore, County Offaly, in 1829. The initials D.E.W. stand for Daniel Edmund Williams, who joined the distillery as a stable boy at the age of 15 and took over its management when he was just 25.
Today, Tullamore D.E.W. once again operates its own grain-to-glass distillery in the town, covering approximately 58 acres. Milling, mashing, fermentation, distillation, maturation and bottling are all brought together at a single site.
