The Hors d'Âge in the Helios decanter brings together long-aged eaux-de-vie from Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne. Even the youngest components of this blend are 40 years old. Maturation takes place exclusively in oak casks, with Limousin oak contributing to the vanilla character. Before bottling, the alcohol strength is gradually reduced and the Cognac is lightly filtered.

Alongside its pronounced maturity, the Cognac combines soft fruity sweetness with wood and spices. The Helios decanter contains 0.7 litres at 42% alcohol and comes with gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose is powerful and persistent, with pronounced rancio. Cinnamon, ginger and vanilla then emerge, accompanied by delicate woody notes and hints of cigar box and undergrowth.
• Palate: On the palate, the Cognac is initially soft and supple. Vanilla then unfolds before cinnamon, ginger and cloves reappear alongside delicate fruity sweetness. Subtle notes of wood and undergrowth complement the spice.
• Finish: Vanilla remains present throughout the long finish. Cinnamon and cloves develop alongside it, accompanied by delicate fruity sweetness.

Distillery/Bottler:

Vallein Tercinier is based at the Domaine des Forges in Chermignac. Louis Vallein acquired the estate in 1791; Georges Vallein established the trading house in 1850 and began selling bottled Cognac. As an estate owner, distiller and merchant, he laid the foundations for the family business. Around 1920, his successor Paul Vallein acquired Camille Dupuis, a company with its own Cognac blends.

The house's work spans everything from distillation to bottling in Chermignac. Expertise in selecting and blending eaux-de-vie is passed down within the family. The distillery also has a long history: in the decades after the Second World War, its eight stills supplied spirits both for the house itself and for other Cognac merchants.
