Special Features:
XO Vieille Réserve brings together equal proportions of eaux-de-vie from Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne, the youngest aged for at least 35 years. Maturation takes place exclusively in oak casks. The blend comprises eaux-de-vie aged between 35 and 40 years that have been married for over ten years. The bottling strength is adjusted slowly and gradually, after which the Cognac is lightly filtered. Its pronounced rancio character and soft texture clearly reflect its long cask maturation.
The Quadro version presents the Cognac in a curved Bohemian crystal decanter and includes gift packaging. The decanter contains 0.7 litres of Cognac at 40% alcohol, with no added colouring.
Alongside the mature leather and rancio notes, more delicate floral impressions of linden blossom and vine blossom emerge. A hint of honey complements the soft, spicy character.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: Rancio and old leather lead the nose. Spicy tobacco, gentle vanilla and a delicate touch of spice complete the aroma.
- Palate: The Cognac feels velvety on the palate. Bitter cocoa and spicy notes combine with a balanced, elegant structure.
- Finish: The finish lingers for a very long time, leaving a silky mouthfeel.
Distillery/Bottler:
Vallein Tercinier has its roots at Domaine des Forges in Chermignac. Louis Vallein acquired the estate in 1791; Georges Vallein founded the trading house in 1850 and began selling bottled Cognac. He was an estate owner, distiller and merchant. Louis Tercinier later expanded the business into numerous European countries.
Distillation and bottling take place in Chermignac. The family's history thus encompasses not only trading, but also the production and blending of eaux-de-vie. In the decades following the Second World War, eight stills supplied both the house itself and other Cognac merchants. From the 1990s onwards, Louis and Catherine Tercinier divided responsibility for agriculture and trading between them.
