Special Features:

Maturation in a single Pedro Ximénez sherry cask shapes this Korenwijn from Zuidam. Its grain base consists of malted barley, maize and rye. Syrupy dried-fruit notes and a gently bitter finish complement its fruity, chocolatey character.

The genever was distilled on 11 February 2016 and bottled from cask B00249 on 9 October 2023 after seven years of maturation. The cask yielded 489 numbered bottles. The bottling contains no added colouring and is non-chill filtered. It has an alcohol content of 38% and comes in a 1-litre bottle with a presentation tube.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Chocolate and orange lead on the nose. Honey, spices and liquorice round out the rich, balanced aroma.
• Palate: On the palate, orange has a full-bodied presence. Dates, figs and raisins have a syrupy quality, accompanied by chocolate and nutty notes.
• Finish: Gently bitter cocoa, caramel and ripe orange linger in a long finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Zuidam Distillers is a Dutch family business in Baarle-Nassau whose history began in 1975. Fred van Zuidam and his son Patrick are behind the recipes. The distillery produces its distillates and extracts in-house and processes them further on site. Alongside genever, its range includes gin, liqueurs and whisky.

The production of Zuidam's one-year-old Korenwijn illustrates how it brings grains and botanicals together: the grain spirit undergoes four distillations in a small pot still. A portion is then distilled again with juniper, liquorice root and anise seeds. Only then are the distillates combined and adjusted to 45% alcohol for cask maturation.
