Green apples form the base of Mom's Homemade Applecello. A small proportion of lime and lemon distillate complements its fresh fruit character. At 22% alcohol, this Dutch liqueur combines apple fruit and citrus notes.
Hélène van Zuidam initially developed the recipe for her own family and made the liqueur in small batches for years. Fresh green apples are selected and peeled by hand; lime and a touch of bergamot complete the recipe. The liqueur has a pale golden hue and can be enjoyed well chilled, neat, over ice or in cocktails.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Apples lead on the nose, accompanied by light citrus notes and bergamot.
Palate: On the palate, a pronounced apple note shapes the tart flavour. Gentle sweetness balances the acidity, and the liqueur feels smooth and light.
Finish: Delicate apple and lime flavours linger on the finish.
Distillery/Bottler:
Zuidam Distillers is an independent family business in Baarle-Nassau in the Netherlands. The family has been producing spirits since 1975, and the second generation now runs the distillery. Alongside liqueurs, its range includes genever, gin and whisky.
The company makes its own distillates and extracts and processes them within its own distillery. Natural ingredients form the basis of its products; no artificial fragrances, colourings or flavourings are used. This approach applies to both its liqueurs and its other spirits.
