Special Features:

Maturation in white port casks shapes this four-year-old Oude Genever from Zuidam. Special No. 32 is based on a mixture of equal parts corn, rye and malted barley. The grain spirit undergoes three distillations before cask maturation gives this edition its distinctive character.

Zuidam distilled the genever on 18 March 2019 and bottled it on 27 April 2023. The release comprises 2,293 bottles, each containing 1 litre at 38% alcohol. The genever is not chill-filtered and contains no added colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Pronounced fresh fruitiness with citrus notes leads on the nose. Jasmine and white roses add more delicate floral accents. With a little time in the glass, vanilla, honey, green apple and peach emerge.
• Palate: The genever feels fresh and rich on the palate. Initially, white grapes, green apples, apricots and peaches recall a fruit salad. Orange then comes to the fore, accompanied by delicate notes of white chocolate.
• Finish: The medium-length finish fades gently with apple, peach and orange alongside notes of honey.

Distillery/Bottler:

Zuidam Distillers is an independent family business in Baarle-Nassau, close to the Dutch-Belgian border. Fred and Hélène van Zuidam began producing liqueurs and genever professionally in 1976. Today, their sons Patrick, managing director, and Gilbert, sales director, run the company. The distillery makes its own distillates and extracts and processes them on site. It uses natural raw materials without artificial fragrances, colourings or flavourings.

For Zuidam's classic Oude Genever, the grain spirit is distilled three times in a small pot still. A portion then undergoes a fourth distillation with juniper berries, liquorice root and aniseed. Zuidam subsequently combines the components. This approach brings together a distinctive grain spirit and botanical aromas developed separately.

Facts:
