Special Features:
Rémi Landier XO brings together long-aged eaux-de-vie from Fins Bois and the work of a family of glassblowers. Created in the late 1970s, the blend combines spirits whose youngest members are around 15 years old and whose oldest are almost 50. They mature predominantly in previously used oak casks.
Ugni Blanc grapes form the base. The wine is distilled twice with its lees in a Charentais pot still. The house uses French oak casks from Limousin or Allier for maturation. Before bottling, the Cognac is chill-filtered and reduced to 40% alcohol. It contains no colouring.
The distinctive bottle resulted from a collaboration between Jean-Yves Landier and glassblower Alain Guillot, a Meilleur Ouvrier de France. Today, his son Frédéric continues to blow the bottles by hand, giving each one its own individual character. This version contains 0.7 litres of Cognac and comes in black-and-gold gift packaging.
Fruit, flowers and spices define the aromatic profile, with additional notes of orange and violet. The Cognac can be enjoyed neat or over ice. It also pairs well with blue cheese or a chocolate dessert.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: The nose opens with passion fruit and mango alongside chrysanthemums, roses and violets. Raisins, dates, apricots, blackberries and watermelon then emerge. A hint of smoke adds a subtle accent, while gentle spices, honey and vanilla complete the bouquet.
- Palate: Fruit remains present on the palate, accompanied by pronounced nutmeg and curry spice. Sweet-tasting liquorice joins in, immediately complemented by vanilla, walnut and pipe tobacco.
- Finish: The long finish feels fresh. Candied stone fruit with juicy apricot, walnut and spices linger.
Distillery/Bottler:
The Landier family has roots in Fins Bois dating back to 1890. Jean-Yves Landier and his daughter Géraldine represent the fourth and fifth generations of the family business, which encompasses winegrowing and its own distillery.
Jean-Yves and Géraldine jointly founded Le Chai 27 in Rouillac in 2012. Alongside the family shop, it houses maturation cellars and facilities for packaging and storage. In addition to Cognac, the house produces Pineau des Charentes and wines from the Charente. Visits to the distillery and vineyards are available by appointment.
