Maturation predominantly in new oak casks shapes the expressive style of Hennessy Very Special. Mature eaux-de-vie are brought together in this blend. Toasted notes and fruit accompany a full, creamy palate; despite its powerful aromas, the Cognac retains a fresh, fragrant character.

Its aromatic strength and rounded flavour make Hennessy V.S. versatile: it can be enjoyed neat or over ice and works equally well in classic cocktails, more elaborate cocktail creations and simple mixed drinks. This version contains 0.7 litres at 40% alcohol and comes without gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The Cognac initially reveals aromas of freshly toasted bread, toasted almonds and brown sugar. More subtle grape aromas then emerge, complementing the toasted notes.
• Palate: The Cognac is full-bodied and creamy on the palate. Vanilla complements its intense flavours.
• Finish: The finish is fresh and reveals floral notes.

Distillery/Bottler:

Richard Hennessy, an Irish officer serving the French king, founded the house in 1765. Its historic home is in Cognac, on the River Charente in western France. For its Cognacs, Hennessy selects grapes from Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne, Borderies and Fins Bois. The eaux-de-vie are distilled twice in copper pot stills and then matured in French oak casks. Selection, maturation and blending are the three central stages of the house’s work.

Responsibility for the blends has been passed down within the Fillioux family for around two centuries. Renaud Fillioux de Gironde continues this lineage as the eighth-generation Master Blender and leads the tasting committee. Its members meet every morning at 11 a.m. to assess and select eaux-de-vie and evaluate their potential to develop. Training a committee member’s nose and palate takes ten years, establishing a shared foundation for these decisions.
