Amarás Espadín Reposado gains its character from at least three months of maturation in casks made from two different oak species. It is made from Espadín agaves of the species Agave angustifolia, harvested at eight years old in Tlacolula, Oaxaca. This artisanal mezcal develops a natural amber colour during cask maturation.

Alongside delicate woody and nutty notes, its aromatic profile includes caramel and maple syrup. It is bottled at 37% alcohol and comes in a bottle containing 0.7 litres.

• Nose: The nose reveals delicate notes of toasted oak, cooked agave and caramel.
• Palate: The mezcal is soft and supple on the palate. Delicate vanilla and roasted hazelnuts mingle with citrus notes.
• Finish: The finish remains delicate and leaves a lingering warmth.

Distillery/Bottler:

Santiago Suarez and Luis Niño de Rivera founded Amarás in 2010. The Mexican brand works with Maestros Mezcaleros in Oaxaca, Guerrero and Durango, using both cultivated and wild-growing agaves. Its approach encompasses every stage from cultivation to the finished spirit; production takes place in traditional facilities known as palenques.

In Amarás's traditional production process, the cooked agave hearts are crushed. The juice and fibres are placed in wooden fermentation vessels with water, where the sugars ferment into alcohol. The fermented material is then distilled twice. These steps form the artisanal foundation of the brand; for Espadín Reposado, they are followed by maturation in oak casks.
