Ageing exclusively in so-called Red Barrels made of fine-grained oak shapes the fruit-forward character of Martell VSOP. The seasoned wood of these casks supports the combination of pronounced fruit aromas and subtle woody notes. The assemblage brings together eaux-de-vie whose youngest members have matured in casks for at least four years. Yellow fruits take the lead, with the wood providing a restrained counterpoint.

The miniature contains 0.03 litres of cognac at 40% alcohol and comes without additional packaging. It offers a small tasting format of the classic Martell VSOP. The cognac can be enjoyed neat, over ice or as part of a cocktail.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals fresh yellow plums and greengages, accompanied by gentle woody notes. Swirling intensifies and deepens the fruit aromas, bringing out apricot and vineyard peach.
• Palate: The cognac opens full and broad on the palate. Intense notes of small plums, peaches and apricots define the flavour.
• Finish: Delicate, sweet-toned spice notes from the wood emerge on the finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Founded in 1715, Martell is one of the oldest major cognac houses and is based in Cognac. It transforms wines from the Charente into eaux-de-vie through double distillation. Martell has been part of Pernod Ricard since 2001.

An important decision is made before distillation: Martell removes the yeast sediment from the wines and distils only clear wines. The house thereby aims for a light, clean spirit whose character develops further during cask maturation. Its general working methods include the use of fine-grained, lightly toasted oak casks, which favour milder woody notes and a less pronounced tannin influence.
