We take the ferry from Kennacraig pier on the Scottish mainland to the island of Islay. Located on the west coast, it is the southernmost and most fertile island of the Hebrides - a group of islands along the northwest coast of Scotland. A very special island awaits us. While we still feel the salty, damp air on our faces and the sea waves beneath us, we can already see the land on the horizon. Islay is characterized by rugged cliffs and grass-covered hills. Miles of sandy beaches, a rich flora and fauna - Islay is rough, windy and yet breathtaking. An island that is well known among whisky lovers. We would like to find out more about the distillery where the entire whisky production - from barley to bottle - takes place in one place. A young, yet rustic and traditional distillery in the heart of the island of Islay: Kilchoman Distillery.
What makes the Kilchoman distillery so special – the highlights at a glance:
- Kilchoman is a farm distillery: the employees still distill the whisky here in the traditional way, from the barley harvest to bottling, all steps are carried out on one site.

- Malting on the malting floor: The Kilchoman distillery still malts the barley traditionally on the floor.
- The distillery uses the island's own peat to dry the barley, which gives the whiskeys their strong smoky aroma.
